First photo was an experiment that I probably won't be doing again; the foreground is reverse painted with gouache on an acetate transparency, which I rotoscoped over the original by taping it to my monitor; the background is watercolor. Since it layers on top of/around the original (rather than cutting out the photo's jacket then putting that on the drawing), it's also very similar to matte painting for movies. It's a cool effect, but nerve-wracking and patience-testing in the sheer amount of steps it took.
