Hallowatch 2026 No. 15: 11-11-11 (2011)

Like the Omen remake being released on June 6, 2006, this seems to be a movie whose primary purpose was to be released on a specific day, not to tell any sort of story.

Wikipedia; my spoiler policy continues to be "if you miss anything by learning the plot there wasn't much plot there."

I didn't have a great time with this — I think I might've if I'd done Tulpa yesterday as initially planned, where the goofiness of this could then be novel and refreshing; but instead it suffers from juxtaposition with Vamps and its dubious understanding of religion and purchased-direct-from-spirit-halloween masks could not cut it against the humor and warmth of that movie.

The effects reminded me a lot of Kroll Show's "Ghost Bouncer" segments, which I guess is good, I liked those; to its credit, it has some pretty ok cinematography, and its lead looks like a latino George Clooney.

Having a baffling conception of what religion is and how it works is not really the novelty it once was, pre-twitter. There's some goofy-fun deaths. It sort of feels like a final destination movie when it's working the best, and like the part in The Chronicles of Riddick where they're outrunning sunrise at its worst. A land of contrasts.

Hey I'm wasting word count on a movie I didn't like. That's against my rules for this.

Rewatch? Hell no. Sequel? Hell no. Remake? Get someone competent to write it and we'll talk. NOT James Wan. Or Oz Perkins. ■
